Hi, Iâm Tony Langstaff, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
My path to becoming a therapist wasnât straightforwardâit was more of a winding road. Along the way, I made my share of mistakes and poor choices that brought heartache, loss, and difficult lessons. But those experiences also taught me that we donât have to stay stuck, and that real change is possible one moment at a time.
I was raised in a single-parent home by my mom, who worked tirelessly as a Social Worker for the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services. Watching her care for others inspired me and planted the first seeds of my interest in helping people.
Before becoming a therapist, I lived through many of the same struggles my clients face: depression (though I didnât recognize it at the time), communication issues, relational conflict, divorce, remarriage, blending families, and everyday life stress. I also took what I like to call âthe long way aroundâ to this careerâspending twenty years in the military, several years in real estate, and time as a contractor in Afghanistan. Toward the end of my last rotation in Kandahar, I felt a strong pull toward something more meaningfulâdeep connection and healing work. Thatâs when I shifted my path toward becoming a therapist.
My own journey through setbacks and growth shaped my passion for working with individuals, couples, and families. I especially noticed how men often struggle to find safe spaces to be open and vulnerable. What began as a focus on helping men grew into a commitment to also support their partners and families, building stronger, healthier relationships along the way.
I look forward to helping you work towards your version of âthe long way aroundâ! đȘ
